3 day shoot | Direction

Production Company: The Station Media

Agency: Havas

Executive Producer: Hugh Broder

Directors: Morgan & Nick

DP: Nickolas Grisham

We were thrilled when The Station Media approached us to direct this remarkable project. The idea of creating a symbolic tribute to water and conveying its importance resonated deeply with us. Exploring the captivating and enigmatic concept of sculpting a massive 10-ton monument that may never be seen was an incredibly enjoyable experience.

On the first day of shooting, we couldn't contain our excitement as we witnessed the sculpture's progress. We had the opportunity to interview Stuart Simpson, our talented sculptor, capturing the very moment he made his initial cuts into the limestone. The slow-motion shots we captured were truly epic, showcasing the stone fragments flying off the sculpture.

A month later, we returned to Stuart's workshop for the second day of shooting. This allowed us to document the sculpture's progression as seen in the final spot. Through an authentic and candid interview, we recorded Stuart's voiceover that would add depth to the video. Stuart proved to be an exceptional interviewee, his passion shining through every word.

Day three was the climax of the project – when we lowered the sculpture into Pierce Lake. With rain in the forecast, we had many discussions about whether or not to push the installation, but ultimately decided to forge ahead. and we’re so glad we did! Three camera teams were in action, strategically positioned near the crane, on a small island within the lake, and underwater. As luck would have it, fish were drawn to the newly submerged monument, providing the perfect concluding shot.

Collaborating with Hugh for the first time was a delight, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. This project truly embodied the word "monumental" in every sense of the word (pun intended).
