Project Overview

CamLock Films, in collaboration with the advertising agency GSD&M, embarked on an exciting project for the Air National Guard. Our task was to create a series of branded content in the style of the "Cribs" TV show, titled "My Home Base". The aim was to showcase the lifestyle benefits of living and working at two Air National Guard bases—one in Oxnard, California, and the other in Phoenix, Arizona.

Approach and Execution

Our approach involved a two-day shoot in each city. On the first day, we focused on the base, with our host airman leading us around to interview different career fields. The second day was all about capturing the lifestyle scenes in the city—highlighting local volunteering activities, recreational spots, and nature's beauty.

Challenges and Adaptability

We navigated several logistical challenges typical of Airforce and National Guard shoots. This included pre-meditated planning for accommodating civilians on the base, managing a limited crew size, and ensuring constant chaperoning by airmen.

A unique hurdle was a rare blizzard in Oxnard, which led us to rearrange our schedule and shoot in Phoenix first. Weather is always an unpredictable factor, but this was truly unforeseeable.

TAlent and Collaboration

We were fortunate to work with charismatic talents in both cities. The airmen we interviewed were not only prompt and enthusiastic but also extremely attentive, making them some of the best talents we've directed.

Building on Past Experiences

This project with GSD&M brought back several familiar faces from our previous travel series, "Job Fit," for the Airforce. Each project deepens our understanding of the Airforce world. In fact, camping with a SERE Specialist has become a new dream for our team!

Working on "My Home Base" was not just a project; it was an enriching experience that combined creative storytelling, logistical prowess, and the joy of collaboration. It's projects like these that keep us passionate about what we do at CamLock Films.
