We Are Blood | “19 Strangers”
2 day shoot | Production & Post Production
Production Company: CamLock
Directors: Morgan & Nick
Producer: Rob Leeder
Post: Ryan Girard
19 Strangers is our latest project in a string of non profit work that CamLock has done this year. For this project we teamed up with our long term collaborators at We Are Blood, a non profit focused on spreading awareness around and providing services towards donating blood.
Shooting on the Red Helium with Cooke Anamorphic lenses, CamLock got to tell the inspiring true story of how 19 strangers were able to come together to save the life of Austin local Kim Afflerbach by donating the blood that saved her life. Among the many tools we used to tell this story was our motorized camera slider. This slider allowed us to recreate the moment of all 19 donations simultaneously, creating a unique and seamless edit in the story.
Beyond the cinematics we got to flex our directing muscles by working with non actors and kids. We all know it can be a challenge to get the little ones to stand where we want them to, let alone find the right emotional reaction to certain things but by creating an atmosphere of play and giving easy to follow direction we were able to capture some really authentic moments from the entire family.
Though we’re inspired by every shoot we work on it’s hard to imagine one having a greater impact on our team. We were proud to get to tell this story, so much so that we’ll be putting on a We Are Blood blood drive at Lumos fitness on December 10th. If you watched the video and were inspired like we were we’d love to see you there! Follow us on Instagram for updates!
