The story in pre-production

Downland is a marketplace that matches regenerative farmers & ranchers with land, training and capital. Founder Jessi Roesch reached out to us about creating an inspiring video for her launch brunch and other social uses.

For the interviews, we pre-interviewed each subject with the aim to get to know them better before the shoot not only so we can craft insightful questions, but also so the subjects felt more comfortable with the director. We also use this time to tailor the questions so we aren’t using valuable time on set asking questions with answers that won’t make the final cut, and we recorded their answers to help us get inspiration for our pre-vis scripts.

Pre-vis was very helpful for this project because we were working directly with the client. We wanted to be precise with what we were filming, while still allowing for spontaneity on set. We have actually found that the more prep you do, the more time you have for alts and additional shots on our set days.

Post Production

Jessi was simple and fun to work with. She came back with very few notes in post, so we had room to do some extra versioning and social cuts! Check out these little :10s teaser clips below.

Overall, this job took us to some cool places to meet interesting people which is consistently a hallmark of the projects we enjoy the most.
