WIC | “Every Ounce Counts”
1 DAY SHOOT | PRODUCTION & POST PRODUCTION
Production Company: Thousand Foot Squid
Directors: Morgan & Nick
Producer: Buttons Pham
Casting: Brad Burton
It’s always a pleasure for us to get to team up with and direct for Thousand Foot Squid and this one presented some unique and exciting challenges. Luckily, our luscious Angenieux Optimo Prime Lenses on our Alexa Mini LF made the actual shooting easy breezy. (We love those lenses, in case you couldn’t tell.)
Challenge number one was making a single house location look like 3 different houses… and a WIC clinic... AND a hospital. The shoot didn’t require us to run sound so while we were knocking out some early scenes, a team was working hard to build a make-shift hospital room right in the house’s garage.
We are very proud to say, “Look, look! We BUILT THIS!!” —>
To streamline this location transformation process, Nick designed and planned the entire thing out beforehand. Check out his sweet blog and score some great tips on using this technology for yourself!
Challenge number two was casting. This was a breastfeeding spot, afterall, which meant we were pulling from a small group of currently-breastfeeding-actresses. This also meant that on set, we had to be flexible to these young, tiny humans’ needs and be ready to work around their breastfeeding cycles. One of our actresses was required to be far along in her pregnancy and our original mom ended up having her baby right before the shoot. Thankfully, we were able to get that role filled just in time. A huge, special thanks to Burton Casting for their hard work in landing these awesome moms!
